  7.         Thank you for your interest in @API$(113) - the easiest to use
  8.         offline mail reader system available today.
  9.  
  10.         Before we begin with this tutorial (@X0Ewhich is designed to show
  11.         you some of the many features available in @API$(113)@X0B) we should
  12.         probably explain the concept of offline mail and what it is all
  13.         about.
  14.  
  15.         A bulletin board system is a computer system that is dedicated
  16.         to providing electronic messages, sometimes known as EMAIL, to
  17.         other computer users.  You call a bulletin board system (@X0EBBS@X0B)
  18.         using a modem connected to your personal computer.  When the BBS
  19.         answers the phone the two systems exchange 'handshakes' and your
  20.         computer is connected to the other 'remote' computer system.

  22.         Once you are connected to a BBS you can read messages left by
  23.         other computer users.  You can also enter your own messages for
  24.         others to read.  This arrangement works for a BBS that has only
  25.         a few users or one telephone line.  But, what if 100 computer
  26.         users wanted to use the same BBS (the same one with one
  27.         telephone line)?  And on average, each caller was connected to
  28.         the BBS for thirty minutes per day to read messages?

  30.         Obviously, only 48 computer users per day could connect to the
  31.         BBS and read messages (assuming they called at 3:00 am as well!).
  32.         This means @X0F52 users would be unable to connect to the BBS@X0B
  33.         because the other 48 users were using the system.

  35.         This is where offline mail really works.  Instead of calling the
  36.         BBS and reading each message 'one at a time', @API$(113) can call
  37.         the BBS at any time (even while you are asleep) and automatically
  38.         collect all of the messages you are interested in reading.  Then,
  39.         @API$(113) 'downloads' or transfers the messages into your own
  40.         computer very quickly and hangs up the phone.

  42.         Later, you can read the messages at your leisure and reply to
  43.         any messages you wish.  You can even use your favorite word
  44.         processor and spelling checker (something you cannot use when
  45.         connected 'online' to the BBS).  @API$(113) can then call the BBS
  46.         back and 'upload' or transfer your replies back into the message
  47.         bases.

  49.         All of this is handled @X0EVERY@X0B easily by @API$(113).  You can setup
  50.         @API$(113) in minutes so it will call your favorite BBS systems
  51.         and receive messages.   You can just as easy setup @API$(113) so
  52.         it gathers these messages while you sleep and read them in the
  53.         morning.  Just think of @API$(113) as you would your VCR - it
  54.         helps 'time manage' your electronic mail.

  56.         Some other offline mail systems require you to go out and buy a
  57.         terminal program, file compressor program, editor program and
  58.         file listing program in order to use their offline mail systems.
  59.         Infact if you totalled up the costs required to purchase all of
  60.         these programs they would add up to over @X0F$140!!!@X0B
